People of different faiths, including Christians and Jews, could live freely under Islamic rule, but the same could not be said around the world where persecution it was widespread. No one was forced into slavery and they could live and work as they wanted, there was no need to fear being treated less. The abolition of slavery was a very new concept at that time, and would not be widespread for many years to come. A great example of this would be America, where slavery was widespread until quite recently. Islamic civilizations, following the guidelines presented in Islam, have worked from the beginning to make their societies a safe haven for all people. Islam is a religion of peace for all, and Islamic civilizations have adopted rules that have helped achieve this goal. While no civilization is free from flaws, Muslims aimed to provide just rights to non-Muslim members of their societies, just as the U.S. Constitution does today. Islam as a religion must be simple and clear. The teachings of the Quran, the Islamic holy book, and the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) have played an important role in Islamic civilizations. One of the main philosophies is to treat others the way you would like to be treated, and with this in mind leaders have been able to govern with an impartial and open mind. Islamic civilization's commitment to Islam and its teachings is an important reason why Muslims have shaped the world, as we know it. They set an example for future leaders, a kind of testimony, upholding the wisdom that Islam was meant to do
