In the novel kill a mocking bird by Harper Lee; there are many ways in which courage is shown. Courage is defined by standing up for what you believe is right; Regardless of what others say. A great example of courage is when Atticus decides that he will defend an innocent African American; who was falsely accused of raping a white woman. Jem is another great example of courageous character; especially when Dill dared him to go and touch the Radley house. The scout is another courageous character; like when he had the courage to run towards Atticus among all the men in the prison. In this novel To Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee emphasizes courage a lot; he wants everyone to understand that if you believe something is right; stand up, be brave and fight for it. Even though the result might turn out to be wrong; realize that people will still thank you for trying. Courage is defined in this novel in many different and interesting ways.
