When a person finds himself in a difficult situation and has to deal with it, you will see who that person really is by the way he handles the situation. We all know what pride is and what it looks like. Pride makes you act differently towards people, whether you want to be that way or not. At the beginning of the play, we see King Lear giving us the perfect example of being proud. His actions showed his true character, but this ultimately came back to haunt him. Lear arrives and asks his daughter to shower him with love and affection. Whoever showered it with the most love got the largest piece of land. Unfortunately, because Lear was so caught up in the lovefest, he couldn't see what his two daughters were planning. He was blinded by his pride because he loved the adoration he received from them. Lear showed what he truly loved and that was adoration from others. Have you ever heard the expression "kill 'em with kindness"? To me this means that no matter how much you have hurt or disappointed someone, you must always be kind to them. Cordelia provides a great example of this phrase in action. She is initially banished for being honest with her father. Lear does not take kindly to his honesty when he responded to his request. Then, towards the end, we see that Lear gets into trouble and asks her for help. You would think she would send him away like he did her, but she doesn't, instead she takes him in and takes care of him. Through Cordelia's actions, we can see that she is truly a kind person and that she loves her father. If you've ever wondered how you can tell when a woman is angry, check out Goneril. From her actions and the words she uses we can easily see that she is angry. Even if it's a little hard to understand... middle of paper... none of them. At first he is a liar and not trustworthy. Edmund has played with everyone to gain power, but when he realizes he has nothing he changes. Edmund changed his character into a better man because reality hit him; when you realize that you have gained nothing by being a bad person, you begin to second-guess yourself, like Edmund. Cordelia is the only character who held her back throughout the play. He was an example of kindness, love and forgiveness. She never acted out of hate or anger because she knew that being evil always had consequences. Even when her father banished her, Cordelia continued to love and care for him. A person's true colors will eventually come out and you will understand who they really are when they find themselves in a difficult situation. When you see the way they handle this situation, you will also see who this person really is.
