Shane constantly felt defeated and broken. He endured more pain in this experience than some of us will endure in a lifetime. Wendy was attacked from the inside, leading to Shane becoming the victim. She lost more than just the security of her marriage. His dignity and pride were both lost to win back his wife. His condition also led him to give up things like time and money, in the case of the car. Sacrificing all of this for a cause is what really puts Shane in the sheepdog category. He let go of his normal, comfortable life to regain what he wanted and what he had worked for. He could have simply sat back and let the situation take over, but Shane was determined to free his wife from the enemy, win her back, and restore his marriage. He didn't take the easy way out and let it lead to the destruction of everything he had accomplished. The future of their two children depended on his decision to fight, making that worth far more than his comfort or even just her comfort
