Québec's proposed Charter of Values exists to certify the rights and values of its society, while attempting to unify its population in an unprecedented way; a way that excels in our current society and its precedents. Although at first glance it may give the impression of a harmless law, in my opinion it is actually a meaningless charter. This absurdity is expressed in the fact that religious clothing such as hijabs, kippas, turbans and crucifixes larger than average would be banned for public employees. As a result, the inherent freedom that Quebec inhabits would be hindered and would therefore create incessant frustrations. Furthermore, the harm caused by the law completely overshadows the apparently existing beneficial part. While providing extensive arguments on the topic and my personal insights, this essay will focus on the negative impact of Quebec's proposed Charter of Values on its society. The Parti Quebecois states: “The purpose of this bill is to establish a Charter affirming the values of the secular state, religious neutrality and equality between women and men, and providing a framework for requesting accommodation.” . As mentioned above, if the law were to pass, a massive ban on religious clothing would be imposed for public employees. As a result, people's fundamental rights will be violated, which could lead many to protest out of frustration and create even more problems. Of course, freedom is inherent in Quebec and is not something to be prevented, and so the ban on state employees wearing harmless and inoffensive clothing is simply outrageous. Teachers, for example, educate to respect individual rights, which include the freedom to respect a... middle of paper ...between a woman who wears the hijab and one who does not do not exist, for in the end they remain the same person. A woman does not need hijab to be in a position to influence children in religious practice. Furthermore, the Parti Quebecois can object to this argument; however, their wrong solution to a non-existent problem gives rise to an even bigger problem; the violation of individual rights. This violation of individual rights would later express itself in the discontent of the population. Interestingly, from some perception, the Quebec Charter of Values is equivalent to the reckless situation of establishing armed police officers in schools for safety reasons: the prevention of school shootings. Not only does it make no sense in Quebec, since there are not enough cases for it to achieve its goal, but constant anxiety would emerge among students.
