This is why he so desperately needs revenge towards the monster. The monster is one of the first people or things that doesn't do what it says. He creates the monster to prove it to the people who doubted his alchemy and abilities. The crazed monster proves to be incapable of taking revenge on the teachers who doubted him. The monster also kills his family so that Victor will be alone like the monster. Victor's lack of compassion and sympathy towards the monster makes him angry instead of guilty. His cruelty towards his creation led the monster to kill and hurt the people he did, but "when [he] reflected on [the monster's] crimes and malice, [Victor's] hatred and vengeance surpassed all limit of moderation" (Shelley 325). Without compassion, Victor thinks the only way to stop the monster is to take revenge on him, instead of simply granting him the empathy and kindness the monster desired.
