Being born a certain way earns a person privileges or disadvantages depending on how society sees them. For this reason, America has an abundance of women who hate themselves and others because of their appearance. In America there are women who use clothes and cosmetic surgery to try to hide their insecurities caused by society. This standard of beauty rejects all positive attributes of a person. I can be smart and kind, but because I am not what society wants in terms of physical characteristics, I can never be beautiful. I can relate to this topic because I have a hard time seeing my own beauty just like other young women. I distinctly remember wanting to play Annie in my middle school musical and the other kids saying I couldn't because I was black. I got the role but I still remember wanting so badly to be white so I could make my dream come true. I attributed being white to success and even now I often see my face in the mirror and don't like what I see. It took me a while to realize that no one is perfect and that everyone has something they would like to change
