Every living thing in this world has the capacity to be afraid. There are many types of fear. Some. People may also fear other people. People react to fear in many ways. Some people run away or even cower in fear. In 1984, Orwell illustrated what happens when an elite class fears the lower class, when the elite class wants power but fears rebellion, so it dehumanizes people to limit their self-expression. The government of any civilization will monitor the actions of the people. How people act can influence how strict the government is. Big Brother watches people's every move and creates strict laws to keep the government strong. The government, in 1984, uses telescreens to monitor the population of Oceania. Telescreens are screens where someone can interact and talk to people on the screen. Telescreens are placed in public areas and in every home of people of the Inner Party, the Outer Party and rarely of the proles. The television screens cannot be turned off, so you can see everything that is done in the house. Telescreens deny people the right to be alone “For some reason the television screen in the living room was in an unusual position. Instead of being placed as was normal, in the back wall, from where it could dominate the entire room.”(Orwell 5). The Ministry of Love monitors people's movements, facial expressions and reactions. When someone challenges the party, the thought police arrest him for committing a thought crime. The punishment for commenting on a thought crime is vaporization. When someone is vaporized, their identity is erased from the database, as if they never existed. The government dehumanizes the people of Oceania out of fear of rebellion or resistance. The government does not tolerate aged... middle-of-paper people ......fearing the lower classes. The inhabitants of Oceania are forbidden to write anything. This is in fear that people will find the story different from what the government had told the people. People are also not allowed to develop a relationship with anyone. If someone has a relationship with another person, it will create emotions and the government wants to control people's emotions, so they are not allowed to have relationships. The government doesn't want the lower class to have anything they can enjoy. The government placed a limit on the coffee and chocolate that people could consume. People ate bread and unpleasant foods. Ministries live in these large, heavily guarded mansions, while people like Winstone live in a studio apartment. Works Cited Orwell, George. 1984: a novel.
