When you enter a classroom, you will see that they all reflect the increase in cultural diversity of our nation. When it comes to teaching a diverse classroom, many teachers feel pressure to ensure that all of their students learn the same way and understand the material in the same way. Because diversity is defined by more than a student's race or national origin, a teacher like me must be prepared to identify the strengths, weaknesses, limitations, and/or special needs of his or her students. One way to ensure this is to plan carefully to ensure all students participate in an educational activity that they all find interesting and personally relevant to their situations or lives. According to the text, “teaching with texts is more challenging in today's classrooms, where cultural and linguistic diversity has been increasing since the 1960s” (Vacca, et. al, 2012). I found it interesting that a well-known literacy educator believes that we should make connections between the content we teach and students' cultures and languages (Vacca, et.al., 2012). 'were some ways I would try to bridge the gap for those who will have culturally diverse needs in my classroom in the future. According to the text, we as teachers need to go beyond limiting the content of didactic lessons to celebrations or one-off thematic units linked to concepts. multicultural (Vacca, et.al., 2012). I should provide students with literacy and learning experiences that will equip them with the intercultural knowledge and skills they will need as future adults (Vacca, 2012). After reading this, I understand that the goal is f...... middle of paper ...... could do this by participating in community service projects, raising money for an important cause, or creating lessons that teach them how putting themselves in other people's shoes, social concerns about the environment and the future, bullying or school functions/events and how this affects them and others. One example I've seen that would be excellent here would be if I presented them with a lesson about recent immigrants to North America and asked them to write letters addressed to newspaper editors or senators about it. Regardless, let's find ways to implement strategies to close the gap. among those with culturally diverse needs in our classrooms must be effective and carefully considered and, above all, provide each of our students with a safe and interesting learning environment, while also teaching them intercultural awareness and self-awareness.
