(Implementers Series: Understanding Types of Assessment within an RTI Framework | Center on Response to Intervention, n.d.) All students are provided summative assessments at the end of a learning period, these assessments are usually the high-stakes variety, such as Colorado's PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) assessment. Prior to instruction and to measure the student's current knowledge, teachers administer diagnostic assessments. Under RTI, not all students, typically only those deemed at risk, are provided diagnostic assessments. The third and final type of assessment routinely used in RTI is formative assessment which is provided after learning has taken place. Formative assessment illustrates the student's response to instruction. Formative evaluation also reveals areas where instructions/interventions were ineffective. Usually, in the context of RTI, this type of assessment is used to monitor a student's progress
