Are you afraid of death? You shouldn't be. Did you know that the Day of the Dead is celebrated throughout Mexico? They call it Dia De Los Muertos. On this holiday they celebrate the passing of their loved ones. In the United States, Halloween is celebrated on October 31st, on this day we wear our scariest costume, go trick-or-treating for candy and scare others just for the fun of it. They say it is the day when the dead are resurrected, maybe that's why most people are afraid of this day. In Mexico, this holiday occurs on October 31st and ends on November 2nd. It was believed that on October 31, the gates of heaven open and let the souls of children wander the Earth on November 1. Then, on November 2, they open the doors again for adults to roam Earth. Celebrating Dia De Los Muertos may take years of planning or perhaps less. Today they believed that the soul returns and visits their loved ones. They also believe that even if they don't see their loved one who has passed away, they can definitely feel their presence. For the family it is very important because on this day the family reunites and honors their deceased loved ones and ancestors. In my opinion, I find this party really interesting. For a reason, this celebration dates back to the pre-Hispanic cultures of Mesoamerica, in the Nahu region, more than 3,000 years ago. It all started after the Spanish and lasted almost 5 centuries later. In the region of Nahu there are the Aztecs, the Maya, the Toltecs, the Tlaxcaltecs, the ChiChimecs and the Tecpanecs. For the Aztecs, the death of each king or ruler is celebrated. They also honor or dedicate Dia de Los Muertos to the goddess Mictecacihuatl. After centuries of long celebrations and immutable exchanges... middle of paper... for them, it is as if they had never really left and they know that, even if they don't see them, they can feel their soul around them . With this holiday coming, they start planning what they will prepare. Thanks to all the effort and dedication they put into preparing this celebration, I can say that this day is important to them because they know that it is the only time they can spend time with their loved ones. Especially this day because it is the day the doors of heaven open. I really respect their traditions and beliefs and it's something I understand because I can almost relate to and believe in the things they do. Dia De Los Muertos is a time of celebration in remembrance of those who have lost their lives. We should not fear death or the souls of our loved ones: “Rather than denying and fearing death, this actually teaches us to accept and contemplate the meaning of mortality.”
