Topic > My Career Goals: Become a Nurse Practitioner

To me, goals are lifelong opportunities. As I work towards my goals in life, I have realized that they help me grow as a person. I'm a young woman trying to balance life and get organized as things come my way. I take the initiative when it comes to projects and solving a problem. I like to give back to my community by doing community service such as: working in the hospital, collecting books for Africa and cleaning my neighborhood. One day I will incorporate my primary goals and community service projects into one when I achieve my primary goal of becoming a registered nurse. As a registered nurse I can change the world one patient at a time. Becoming a registered nurse at Atlanta Technical College will take two and a half years. The nursing profession requires higher levels of education and there are several specialties. Specialties are areas in which nurses work and are extensively trained to practice, such as geriatrics and psychiatry. This program will allow me to incorporate my community service skills into my plan B is to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA) or biology teacher. The great thing about my backup plans is that I enjoy helping others and I also enjoy teaching others. Since I already have my CNA license I have experience working in hospitals and nursing homes. The main thing I've learned from working in these environments is that you have to have a passion for people and you have to appreciate them. I would like to combine part of my plan A with my plan B because I would like to teach as a nurse. As I study hard to become a nurse, I would like to teach future nurses the importance of the fundamentals of nursing. In other words, if I can't become a nursing teacher, I would like to become an elementary school teacher. I will enjoy teaching science that would help elementary school children's minds grow. Experiments are fun, exciting and also useful to anyone
