Topic > An Analysis of Pro-Choice and Pro-Life Arguments

Abortion is a controversial issue that is not easily handled in today's world. While some people, usually conservatives (also known as pro-lifers), consider abortion to be wrong, others tend to believe that abortion should be up to the woman in that situation; these people are usually liberals (also known as liberal pro-choice supporters). Although Pro-Life and Pro-Choice are two different views on the same point, several issues separate these two sides: the goals of each agenda, the side effects of achieving these goals, and the moral standards supporting each side. Pro-Life supporters have a moral background mostly influenced by biblical influences. These media also rely on science to back up their claims. One of the commandments given by God is “thou shalt not kill”. Conservatives believe that life begins at conception, which is supported by science. The moment the two reproductive cells meet, life begins. So, according to this definition, when an abortion is performed, doctors take the life of a child. Conservatives believe this action should be punishable by law. Liberals, on the other hand, want to keep abortion a legal and regulated process. The moral standard of the Pro-Choice agenda is characterized by the legal definition of life and detailed “what if” scenarios. By law, the beginning of life occurs when the baby takes his first breath. Since abortions are usually performed in the 1st and 2nd trimesters, the baby has not yet begun to live, meaning that the life of a human being has not been taken. Furthermore, liberals tend to use the example of the rape victim being inseminated. In this case, would the moral option be to prevent this woman from having to raise a child whose father she would like him to be or... middle of paper...? The idea that premarital sex is bad is that these girls could get pregnant and ruin their whole lives. That said, there's really no fear of having unprotected sex as a teenager. A girl can simply go to a clinic, have an abortion and go home as if nothing had happened. In any case, Pro-Life and Pro-Choice both offer significant disadvantages. All in all, abortion is a difficult topic to address by today's standards. With two very different groups representing each side of the spectrum, the oppositions are clear. The most important issues on which these two sides disagree are each group's moral standards, the goals it hopes to achieve, and the side effects of achieving these goals. Although making a decision on abortion may be difficult for Congress, I hope that one day humanity will be able to solve this whole complicated issue..
