Topic > How Racial Profiling Led to Trayvon Martin's Death

Racial Profiling As I head to the store to get some snacks for the next half of the Super Bowl, I'm trying to hurry. I finally get to the store and quickly grab my two favorite items, skittles and an iced tea. Thinking to myself this is all I need, not knowing it would be my last meal. On the way home I have the feeling of being followed. I accelerate. I turn to find that a middle-aged, heavyset adult Hispanic man is actually following me. In my head, I just want to get home safely. Every move I make, he makes the same moves. Finally I turn around, quite nervous, to see if there was any problem. Next thing I know we're on the ground fighting. Here I was, at seventeen, facing a man in his thirties. As we argue, I know this situation will not end well. The last thing I remember is being shot in the stomach. As I lay on the grass taking my last breath, all I could think was “Why me”? Young Trayvon Martin was killed due to racial profiling. Because of the way he was dressed, all black with a hoodie, he was seen as a threat. Trayvon had no intention of harming anyone, he wasn't carrying a weapon, but just because of his appearance he was murdered. Racial profiling is wrong in many ways. The history of racial profiling and psychology demonstrates that racial profiling is nothing more than an excuse for blatant racism. Human beings are not put on this earth to be falsely accused simply because of their appearance. How a person lives or dies should not be based on racial profiling which is an immoral and unethical tactic. Opponents will argue that racial profiling is based on suspicious behavior and not race. They feel like racial profiling can potentially stop some crimes sooner than… middle of the paper… society because of the color of their skin. America should protect and love its citizens and not racially profile them. The color of our skin should not determine our future, and our future should not be in the hands of other people based on how they feel about another person. Racial profiling is wrong! Racial profiling has done far more harm than good. Racial profiling has killed innocent people and failed to serve justice. Racial profiling has pushed America one step backward from the many years we emerged from slavery and segregation. Should people use racial profiling as an excuse to disrupt a person's personal life? Racial profiling takes away the trust we have in our law enforcement. Everyone wants to be protected by authorities and not harmed by them, regardless of your age or race. I'm afraid of the justice system, you shouldn't be??
