Then my father decided to move us closer to my aunt, who lived in the capital Kuwait City. The banks were closed and everything we had, our mother's gold, we sold to pay for gas and complete our short but extremely terrifying journey from Al-Ahmadi to Kuwait City. It was a teeth-chattering journey for kids aged two to sixteen. Our father drove quickly through checkpoints; it was a well-known rule of war. Upon our arrival in Kuwait City we occupied an abandoned house, not far from my aunt's house. Life in Kuwait City became bearable, food was slightly cheaper, we still lacked gas for cooking, but we had electricity for a couple of hours a day, and the nights were not so violent. My brothers and I went back to normal life, except there was no school anymore and that was exciting. We had a lot of time to play, fish and have fun. My brother and I spent a lot of time outside trying to forage for food and use it as an excuse to help our mother, but instead we spent adventurous times outside. Peace between Kuwait and Iraq was restored with the support of thirty-nine countries, and in 1991 the United Nations established a border between Kuwait and Iraq
