Teenagers smoke and experiment with tobacco every day. Every year the death rate due to smoking increases and people have health problems. Teens experiment with tobacco all the time and it is difficult to prevent it. Most adults who smoke regularly started at a young age and have health problems. Youth smoking can create health problems in the future, such as lung cancer. Peer pressure happens all the time and is a major factor when it comes to smoking. When teenagers smoke, they say it helps with stress, etc., but the effects last a lifetime. Teenage stress, parental influence, and peer pressure can lead teens to smoke. Teenagers believe that smoking gives them freedom and makes them feel older. Most adults started as teenagers. Most adolescents smoke for a sense of freedom and adult life, and most adolescents believe that smoking makes them look good (O'Loughlin, “Peer…” 1 ). Many teenagers smoke to feel cool and to have that freedom. Adolescents who start smoking early in life are more likely to develop lung diseases and problems as they grow (O'Loughlin, “Peer…” 1). Smoking is being experimented with among adolescents. Starting smoking early can have permanent effects, parents can have a great influence on teenagers and smoking habits. When children see their parents smoking at a young age, they may acquire a smoking habit and are more likely to smoke (“Why…” 2). Teenagers can be influenced by their favorite actors and musicians (“Why”...2). Teens become curious about tobacco and start early. Teenagers acquire the habit of smoking by watching their parents or someone they know smoke. It is sometimes still difficult to prevent tobacco use by adolescents even when their parents have a good foundation (Dawshen 2). Parents may have the best support, and trying to maintain a cigarette can be addictive and lead to health problems in the future. Smoking can damage your health and is a difficult habit to quit. Trying to smoke simply due to pressure, wanting to feel better due to stress, and simply wanting to experiment can leave long-term health effects.
