"Metamorphosis": The story of a traveling salesman who, shortly after returning home, wakes up one day and discovers that he has literally transformed into a gigantic insect incapable of communicating . Upon initial analysis of this story, a reader might think that this is the case pure and simple, but upon further examination they will discover that this is not what the story is about at all. Although it focuses and is told from the point of view of Gregor and what is happening to him, don't be fooled, this is actually a story about Grete. If you study each of the main characters in the story you will find many similarities that Gregor, his father and his mother share in the way of their metamorphosis. All three go through quite sudden and obvious metamorphoses at almost the same time. Grete, however, becomes a source of interest as her metamorphosis is very different; it is a much slower, gradual and overall less noticeable change that occurs in her. Throughout the book there is a biting emphasis on Grete somewhat hidden from Gregor's point of view. At the beginning of the story we see a vivid description of all the members of Gregor's family. Each of them notices and reacts to Gregor's sudden change in behavior in a marked way. We are shown each of them in their natural state, as they react to Gregor's delinquency through Gregor's eyes. First, his mother is kindly concerned that her son is not fulfilling his usual duties. Then his father, looking for a way to take some kind of charge, (and this is significant) knocks on the door, in comparison to his mother's approach. You see the Father taking on a sort of controlling and disciplinary role here. Last we are shown Grete. Here she is briefly introduced like the other characters, but her reactions to Gregor and how she changes afterward will set her apart from her parents and even Gregor. From Gregor and his parents we see a rather rapid transformation in their attitude towards Gregor's metamorphoses. Gregor himself doesn't seem to think twice about waking up as a giant bug, rather he devotes his thoughts to the mundane things, the things he needed to do, as if being a giant cockroach didn't interfere with his normalcy. activity.
