They mocked them as monkeys and simple, funny figures. I think this is why many African Americans today are so musically inclined and so talented. Black people today are so talented and have a unique way of showing it. There are many teenagers who don't like education and would rather become famous than go to school. Blacks get even less education than whites. Some researchers suggest that there are some young black males who do not always succeed in school because they do not want to be seen as white. These young males tend to drop out of high school and engage in illegal activities. Mentally they feel that speaking correct English is associated with white culture. I feel like this is a negative impact of slavery because black people spoke differently. Blacks spoke differently because they were less educated. I don't think speaking proper English is a form of behaving white, it's a form of education. This may be another form of generational curse imposed on uneducated families. I could imagine if one's grandparents and parents are not educated and don't know correct English, how will they teach correct English to their children? Their children may learn good English in school, but when they return home they may be looked at as acting white. Personally I can identify with this situation. I have met some uneducated people and because I speak correct English they want to make comments. They may say things like, “Oh, you think you're better than someone who speaks blankly.” It's amazing that racism and discrimination aren't going away
