Topic > Child Abuse in the Middle East - 786

Child abuse is a very painful topic in the Middle East. Children are beaten every day, almost without reason. There are many signs of child abuse; bruises, broken bones, scratches, deep cuts, etc. They are also taken to concentration camps, kidnapped and placed daily in the hands of the military without notifying their parents. Organizations around the world are trying to help prevent this horrible abuse, but due to the beliefs and religions of the citizens who say they have been doing it for centuries, they won't change it just because someone doesn't like it. Bacha Bazi is a very popular form of child abuse. Bacha Bazi is when men kidnap young men and dress them up as women and force them to dance at parties and large events as a source of entertainment. After the event, the young men are taken home with the older men and are raped. The effect on the men who committed the crime is minimal. These criminals still practice and spread Islam without any regret or problem, as if nothing is happening. Because Bacha Bazi is so common, the majority of the Middle Eastern male population lives with psychological scars from sexual abuse they suffered as children. About 50% of men in Afghanistan take young men as lovers. Bacha Bazi is usually performed in secret to avoid any kind of punishment. The government understands that this is happening but fails to do anything about it due to the citizens' beliefs and religions. Older citizens defend their belief that this has been happening for centuries and they are completely used to it, so why would they change it? But Bacha Bazi is not the only abuse that occurs. (Mondloch)There are many stories of child abuse in the media in the Middle East, but a few stories caught my attention. The first tells... middle of paper... military police."
