Topic > The Impact of Video Games on Children - 640

Over the years, video games have become a very popular aspect of our culture. Children and teenagers have replaced riding bikes or playing with dolls with video games that connect people around the world. We've all been there at one time or another, there are games for just about everyone. Video games are for all ages, yes, we adults love playing them. Playing video games is fun, but not many people realize the impact video games can have on the body, physically and mentally. Excessive video game use can cause decreased social skills, deteriorated health, and increased aggressive behavior. Yet many people are worried about the impact this will have on the social skills of everyday face-to-face contact. When playing video games, people limit themselves to social interaction unless it has to do with gaming, many people play online and talk to their friends through headphones. When people have face-to-face contact they develop skills in learning to communicate with people and eye contact is not achieved through a video game. Being in a social environment promotes social skills. A social environment can provide opportunities to learn how to behave correctly in different situations. When playing video games, the person is alone and confined to the room most of the time. This means that there is very little social interaction between the person and the game. When people play video games, they play in sessions and they can last a long time, even all night. People get so caught up in these games that they screw up their friends and family, which means it's difficult to maintain social relationships. Video games not only affect your social skills but can deteriorate a person's health. When you limit yourself to playing games with yourself… middle of paper… know that excessive video game play can cause decreased social skills, deteriorated health, and increased aggressive behavior. This doesn't mean that video games are harmful, it just means that when we play video games ourselves or our children should take the extra step to prevent these possible problems. Children and young adults love playing video games for a long period of time, so it may be best to take short breaks during a long gaming session to avoid hurting your eyes. Also, cut out healthy snacks, so if you get hungry while playing you'll have something healthy to eat instead of just junk food. Always remember when playing a violent video game to leave everything you see in the game. These are perhaps just some of the things to remember when playing video games and to prevent future problems that playing video games can cause.
