Oh, they're just men having fun! I make a mistake and suddenly everyone's talking about nang and namoos, and I have to get my face slammed for the rest of my life” (Hosseini, 188). Soraya is right because she is trying to prove that men and women are equal in every shape and form. This also tells a person how a woman is blamed for every mistake. Even if men are to blame, female society has always been to blame. This quote also justifies how Soraya really takes gender inequality seriously as she gets very angry while returning home from the wedding of her uncle, Sharif's son. According to Baba a man is ranked higher in the gender class. He supports his opinion by stating, “This man is a Pashtun at root. Ha nang e namoos” (Hosseini, 153). This quote is very significant because Baba defines men with nang and namoo. This means honor and pride. Baba is absolutely wrong because a man is not the only one with the qualities of honor as many women around the world carry honor and pride to have a name for themselves. Additionally, women make their families proud by accomplishing something great and good. Therefore, this clearly proves that Baba's view is wrong regarding men having “nang and namoos” in themselves and women
