Topic > Scarlet Letter Sin And Punishment - 1312

The Scarlet Letter is a classic book written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, first published in 1850. The Scarlet Letter is set during the mid-17th century in Salem, Massachusetts. During this time period, many, if not all, people were Puritans and dedicated to the word of God. In this town there was a married couple, Roger Chillingworth and Hester Prynne. It was said and believed that her husband was dead and/or lost at sea. However, Hester becomes pregnant and gives birth to a daughter, Pearl, while her husband is away. Therefore concluding that he had committed adultery. She is punished by being forced to wear a scarlet letter A on her chest at all times of the day and night. However, before being punished, she was tried and interrogated. However, in the Bible it is said that all men and women are sinners, hence why Jesus died on the cross, So if we are all considered sinners, why should we overreact when someone misbehaves. Even men and women committed to the church and considered examples of perfect Christians cannot turn away from the direction of sin. A preacher committed one of the most well-known and unaccepted sins. This shows that there are temptations out there and no one can ever simply not give up at some point. Whether it's the worst sins, like adultery, or the simple, common sins. But the fact is that man was created to have imperfections. No matter how hard we try to defeat these temptations, man simply cannot stay away from them. Sin had forced others to leave communities, forcing them to isolate themselves from society, from themselves, and even from their religion. This has great significance because even today in our communities there are people who behave in this way. Examples of this might condemn others for being gay, atheist, or perhaps having sex before marriage. Whatever the reason, it causes people, young or old, to isolate themselves and become strangers. So, engaging in sin is actually bad, but it should never be treated with such humiliation. We are all sinners according to the Bible, concluding that no one in this world is perfect and no one should be treated less perfect than their fellow man. The lesson learned here in The Scarlet Letter is a very common lesson learned. While it may be very common, that doesn't mean it's any less important. In fact the lesson here in the story is actually very important, making it quite common. Nobody is perfect, and although it may seem obvious, it is forgotten. Many people overlook the positive aspects of people and hit them with the negative ones. However, this is not how a society should work. By continually focusing on evil, we have created a world where people become very antisocial and isolate themselves from the everyday world. We are much improved from a Massachusetts town in the 1600s. We punish those who signed with drugs, rape, or murder instead of simple, common sins like swearing. Our society is improving and has evolved to higher levels, yet there is still condemnation of its own imperfections and temptations. Learning from these classic books and stories can give us something different
