This tactic illustrates how used textbooks are the real culprit, and I agree that this argument fuels why textbooks are so expensive. In theory, used textbook buyers think they are getting a great deal, but in reality purchasing a used textbook only increases the price of the new textbook. In this article Roediger states: "One of the main differences in these cases is that pirated films and music are legal and the market for used textbooks is legal" (Roediger, p. 490). Roediger speaks negatively about the used textbook industry saying, “they are true parasites, profiting without investment while harming their hosts” (Roediger, p. 490). I agree that the used textbook industry is greedy because they benefit from work that never belonged to them. Authors are doing the heavy lifting while used textbook companies profit
