Fast Food Everyone has experienced or personally knows someone who has been affected by a health problem. It is extremely common for these problems to be food-related, and becoming increasingly so. The main culprit of these diseases is the famous fast food industry. The chemicals and contents of this food are not meant to be consumed by humans, however, with persuasive advertising, they are to the point that eating it is a daily habit and has even become an addiction for some. Across the world, poor nutrition and poor lifestyles are passed down from generation to generation, affecting everyone of all ages, making it clear that action is needed. Just ask someone if they have eaten fast food in their life and their answer will most likely be yes. “Over 25% of Americans consume fast food every day.” (Palo Alto Medical Foundation 2) Unfortunately for some, this has negatively affected their health, such as obesity. “In 2008, 35 percent of adults aged 20 and older were overweight, in 2011, 11 percent were obese, and more than 40 million people under the age of five were overweight.” (World Health Organization 1). Considering that the large majority of the population is overweight, and another large percentage is close to obesity, it is clear that the food consumed does not do their body justice, nor does it allow them to live a healthy life. The fast food industry is one of the main culprits in providing food that ultimately destroys people's health. Obesity is caused by the intake of high-energy, high-fat foods, as demonstrated in fast food restaurants. “Junk food contains large amounts of fat, and as fat accumulates in the body, you will gain weight and may eventually become obese.” (Fit Day 4) People know that fast food is unhealthy for them, yet they continue to drive through the drive-through. This in itself is the essential problem. Knowing the ingredients of foods is not enough
