Topic > If You Cannot Deceive, You Cannot Lead - 368

"The Morals of the Prince", written by Machiavelli in 1513 has unique and informative points of view. To sustain and/or maintain power, deception is necessary, regardless of whether it is deemed right or wrong. All political parties come into office with the belief that they will do whatever is in the best interests of the people. They intend to be just, honest, and well-liked by those over whom they rule. However, once elected, they find that compromise is necessary to get anything worthwhile. For example, naturalists want the land and animals to be protected from those who wish to abuse or disrupt the natural flow. But, on the other hand, the hunting and fishing industries generate large amounts of revenue, in areas where this is permitted. Therefore, those in power must compromise the needs and/or desires of their people to keep all parties involved happy, or at least contented. Both groups must feel that their wishes have been satisfied. State parks, state recreational lands, and wildlife refuges are then established. Both groups have what they value, naturalists have pristine wildlife refuges, as close to the land as possible at the beginning of time, and some state parks and recreation areas have regulated statutes that allow hunting and/or fishing. Compromise, it may be considered a deception by many. In fact, they have similar meanings, but compromise is a much friendlier word. Would you rather think that your boss compromised with you or deceived you? When dealing with power, even love is a deception. As long as people love you, they will follow you. As long as you tell people what they want to hear, they will love you. You cannot love what you do not know, nor can you love what you cannot trust.
