Those responsible for ocean pollution are not aware of the negative impact they are having on the ocean and the marine life that populates it. Marine pollution causes materials to enter the ocean and harm marine life and water. Marine pollution has been happening since the beginning of time. As time has gone on, the problem has been helped by many organizations and federal governments taking action with this cause by adding laws to try to protect the oceans from much harm. Most people are only now realizing how serious the situation is and are making little but not enough efforts to resolve the situation. The history of marine pollution dates back to the early years of human life, but most of it has taken place from 1900 to the present day. day. Until the early 1970s it was acceptable to throw all garbage into the ocean. Many of the things thrown into the water were toxic substances, chemical weapons, radioactive waste, plastic and even pesticides. It wasn't until the late 1960s that governments around the world held a conference to discuss controlling the dumping of substances into the ocean, but it wasn't until 1996 that people took a major step in regulating dumping into the oceans. In the 1970s, 17 million tons of industrial waste were dumped into the ocean, a number reduced to 8 million tons in the following decade (Marine Bio). People find it easier to dump trash into the ocean because it is much cheaper than disposing of it properly. Oil, fertilizers, debris, radioactive waste, sewage disposal, underwater noise pollution, and toxic chemicals are all things that are found in the ocean and cause pollution. Most of these materials enter our oceans through deliberate discharges and runoffs. The amount of waste found in the ocean up to... half the paper... continues and we do nothing to avoid it. This problem goes back centuries and we are only now trying to do something about it, when we should have worried about it a long time ago. They are trying to fix the situation, but because so much has already been done, it is very difficult to see a change in the ocean, especially if we don't do our part to help it. Of course, not all people have the same attitude about the problem, some people really care and realize all the damage that is happening in our society today. Many people have done great things to help him, but this problem is something that the whole world should take part in. Works cited by WWF. wwf.panda.org. Network. 13 February 2014.
