Employment in the Information, Communications and Technology SectorTerms of ReferenceThe purpose of this report is to meet the criteria set out in the Communication and Work Experience modules , G20001 and W200008 Introduction According to IBM, data created in the last two years represents 90% of the information available on networks and the Internet. (IBM Research) As a result, it is no surprise that there is such a high demand for information, communications and technology (ICT) skills. In May 2013, FIT Ireland (Fast Track to IT) conducted a skills audit in response to 4,500 job vacancies in the ICT sector. The FIT found that the main cause was a lack of ICT skills. Firstly, this report will describe the ICT sector and its range of occupations in the current climate. Next, this report will detail the qualifications and experience needed for the work associated with employment in this industry. Finally, this report will discuss job and career opportunities in this area. Methodology This report will be carried out using a secondary research method, carrying out a literature review. The information, communications and technology sector and its range of occupations ICT refers to the input, storage, transfer, access, manipulation, analysis and transmission of data, and the production of technology to facilitate data. It is also a generic term for computer hardware and software, mobile devices and tablets, telecommunications, radio and television, satellite, and the Internet. The ICT sector affects almost every sector in Ireland. Even industries far removed from the ICT sector, such as agriculture, manufacturing and construction, make use of ICT and in larger companies may even operate their own IT department. As a result of the FIT study, job advertisements and the ICT Ireland report of 17'500 ICT jobs announced by ICT companies in the last three years, these are, therefore, jobs announced by ICT companies in the last three years
