Systemic Intervention and Treatment Plan As has been documented time and again, drug abuse continues to be a huge health problem in the United States (Rowe, 2012). It is estimated that 4 million Americans and their families may be affected by drugs or drug use disorders (Rowe, 2012). Another 3 million for substance abuse or addiction to illicit use or alcohol (Rowe, 2012). The family I will use for my scenario will be presented between these percentages. In this scenario the children would be the first to enter treatment due to behavioral problems at school. Both children (sisters) exhibited aggressive behavior at school towards other children. The girls are both young and active in school activities. When these children were asked questions such as friendship, they both said that they "had a lot of friends." In turn, these girls would tell their parents that they would be bullied, when in reality they were the ones doing the bullying. In this scenario the family would be low income and racially diverse. Later in the situation, it turns out that the children are having problems at home. The younger child told a staff member that she didn't like the number of people living in her house, which caused the child to begin showing additional emotions. The eldest daughter had discussed her mother's drinking with another staff member and that her mother "promised she would stop, but she hasn't." Relationship problems have been known within the family with parents and have affected children. Parents separate due to abusive relationships. Children know about abusive relationships. I have seen subsequent affections but never s...... middle of paper......ren). However, I have also seen a family fall apart due to drugs because one parent was not as involved as the other and was unwilling to give up illicit drugs (Meth) for their family. I saw the family deteriorate and I couldn't do anything. The parent had no problem handing over parental rights without thinking twice. Being a parent myself, it was hard for me to understand this. I'm not completely sure that these would be the goals the client would have for this possible scenario and I'm not yet solid in setting up interventions, selecting the correct therapeutic practice for any given client, but I hope it works. I never know what will work properly until I am faced with the task at hand. My clients help guide me more than anything, which is one of the things I love about SBFT. It is their therapy after all.
