Rape crimes go unreported in 75% of cases, because some victims are too afraid to speak out. There is a problem in society; Big problems like these must be stopped. Rape isn't simply being touched or molested unintentionally, it's actually much more than it may seem. Rape can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. The number of victims is shocking. Most rape victims know their rapist. There are organizations that do their utmost to support victims of rape. They suffer highly traumatic experiences. In the 18th and 19th centuries, laws were passed to help women bring their offenders to justice. Some say there had to be evidence of semen, or that the hymen had to be broken as evidence. It has been difficult for lawmakers to agree on how much evidence is needed to believe women. Throughout much of American history, slave owners could buy black women specifically to satisfy their sexual urges (The Daily Beast Company). If a Caucasian man had raped a woman, it would have been possible to provide more evidence to the victim's case depending on the sexual background of the perpetrator. If the perpetrator was African American, he will most likely be hanged or castrated, the Daily Beast Company reported. All Africans were found guilty, regardless of lack of evidence. People would always ignore rape against black women. No one would ever believe it, or even care. There was no chance that the Africans would have a chance to defend their cause. They have always been discriminated against based on color, but if they had been white it would have been a completely different story. During these centuries, if the woman was raped or pregnant, the father could sue based on loss of income. In 1913 there was a doctor who stated that rape is not an easy crime, basically referring to women... middle of paper... anyone can begin to educate others and themselves about sexual violence. In 1993, the rate of sexual assault was said to have decreased by 16%. Stop asking her what she was wearing. Stop blaming them. Stop being ignorant. Enough with the rape now. Start telling your kids not to rape. Speaks. Stop the silence, help those who need it most. Works Cited Begley, Sarah. “Redefining Rape.”: A Brief History of Rape in America.” The Daily Beast.
