In today's society, continuous schooling has become routine for many citizens. Once held in high regard, college is now considered an expectation for many citizens. It is common practice for many young adults to attend college or trade school immediately after finishing high school. The reputation of collages has become something of a love/hate relationship, advantageous or disadvantageous. This helps determine whether or not prospective students want to apply. What's the deal with college? College is supposed to be the start of a new life, where before it had a sort of "hallelujah" moment it has now shrunk to becoming a need of society and no longer has a special meaning behind it. The question is not who should go to college, but why a person should go to college. Nowadays attending a higher education facility is no longer glamorous, but it still maintains its purpose of providing education and a new life to many prospective students. In today's society, going to college is almost an expectation, and people who don't go are almost looked down upon. What's the problem with not going? The answer. A person will almost seem lazy and unambitious. Yet there are stories of people who don't go to college and succeed in life. But with those tales their hard work was not ignored to reach their position in life. Going to any choice of higher education facility is considered an achievement. But doing something with your degree and doing something for yourself is a greater accomplishment. A person now joins the exclusive club of a person who makes himself a better person. According to John H. McWhorter's article “Who Should Get into College?”, “When properly understood, diversity encompasses the wonderful varieties of human excellence and vision in a modern civilization: from musical genius to civic engagement to great cerebral magic”.” (438).
